The Warriors matchup with the Portland Trailblazers is a premier offensive display highlighted by each teams guard tandem. The Blazers Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were the NBA’s highest scoring guard duo and the Warriors splash brothers are capable of lighting another team up from beyond the arc at any given moment. Game 1 of the first round did not disappoint as Lillard and McCollum combine for 75 points and the splash brothers combined for 44 points. The Warriors are also blessed to have a scoring machine like Kevin Durant that had 32 points in that game so that Curry and Thompson did not have to score as much as the Blazers guards. The game was a back and forth ordeal for most of the game, the scores were tied at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. It was not until the fourth quarter that the Warriors began to pull away and it was all credit to their defense rather than their offense that helped them seal the victory.
In the closing game of the series the Warriors were able to hold the Portland Trailblazers to under 40% shooting from the field. Even more surprisingly, they were able to hold superstar guard CJ McCollum to only 6 points in the game. The intensity on the defensive end set the tone for the game early on en route to a 25 point blowout win to complete the sweep. Now the Warriors rest while they wait to face the winner of the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers series in the next round of the playoffs.
